Two years after their debut single which was their first UK number
one the pet shop boys chalked up their third chart topping success
with you are always on my mind. You were always on my mind already
had chart runs with Willie Nelson and the King. The pet shop boys,
again took pole position with 'Heart' a dance remix from their second
album actually.
The spring of 1988 saw the fresh faced antipodean talent of kylie
reach the top spot. Recently released from neighbours she was propelled
from Charlene to chart success by the unstoppable hit making machine
that was Stock, Aitkin and Waterman. By accident in 1988 we noticed
that if you played a 33rpm recording of Rick Astley at 45rpm it
sounded quite like Kylie and vice versa. In the old days we could
do this as long as we were using a thing called vinyl and an ancient
invention called a record player.
