Number 1's of 1986 in The
UK
Two
number one records of 1986 were later returned to the top spot
as charity records for comic relief. Boyzone did when the going
gets tough and Gareth Gates covered the cover version of spirit
in the sky, originally a number 1 for one hit wonder Norman Greenbaum
in 1970.
Sir
Cliff recycled his 1959 classic number 1 living doll with the
young ones as backing singers. The 1985 version of living doll
was a comedy charity version. Unfortunately comedy records are
only funny once, the second time you hear the song you know the
joke, and after a few more listens it becomes boring, in fact
very boring indeed. However you cant knock the King of UK rock'n'roll
and the young ones TV show was brilliant, so this tune escapes
our pop flops of the 80s list,
unlike the chicken song. However the Chicken song is a decent
parody of naff records so it almost manages to escape the naughty
list, but only almost. we could also be wrong but we think reet
petite held the record as the record taking the longest to get
to number one from when it was first realeased in 1957. This record
